The UK will once again host the most opulent ultramarathon experience in the world.
In November, Scotland will host the second competition of its kind, The Highland Kings Ultra, which combines the most rigorous physical and mental testing with luxurious accommodation.
In order to prepare for the four-day event proper, which will take place in April 2023 and span from the picturesque Glencoe to Ben Nevis, Scotland’s tallest mountain, athletes from all over the world will begin a world-class, six-month training program with some of the biggest names in the sport, including world champion ultrarunner Jonathon Albon.
After completing the demanding challenge, which involves a climb of more than 18,000ft (5,555m), participants will enjoy the most opulent aftercare possible, including butler service, meals prepared by Olympic physiotherapists, champion athletes, and sports nutritionist Alan Murchison, food prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, hydrotherapy pools, and a specially constructed athlete village.
The success of the inaugural event prompted the team to make it an annual experience, according to Matt Smith, a former SAS communicator and founder of Primal Experiences, which organizes the Highland Kings Ultra and has been providing luxury wilderness adventures since 2014.
“The first event was a fantastic spectacle,” he said. “The athletes who took part said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with some wanting to return for a second time.
