The Houses of Marilyn Monroe, 60 Years Later!

If Marilyn Monroe were still alive, she would be 96 years old as of August 4th, which was the 60th anniversary of her passing. The blonde stunner, who is still a sex icon today, began her career as a pin-up model before moving into acting.

She was one of 20th Century Fox’s most bankable stars and was known for her comedies such as Some Like it Hot and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She appeared in the centerfold of Playboy magazine’s debut issue and was linked to rumors of an affair with President John F. Kennedy. The troubled actress left her imprint on multiple opulent mansions before she died at age 36 in 1962 from a barbiturate overdose.

Marilyn, a native of Los Angeles, lived in foster homes and orphanages for much of her youth and would continue to move frequently for the remainder of her life. She was hitched at age sixteen and shared a studio apartment in Sherman Oaks with her first spouse. She went to Vegas to get a hasty divorce as her star started to soar, and then she left on her own. Following stays at the Beverly Hills Hotel and the women-only Hollywood Studio club, Marilyn and her second husband, New York Yankees star Joe DiMaggio, moved into a sizable estate in Runyon Canyon. Their union only lasted nine months.

So, the once-again-alone Marilyn rented the penthouse at Granville Towers, one of West Hollywood’s most magnificent structures. The penthouse has 2,032 square feet across two floors, floor to ceiling windows with panoramic views, and exquisite architectural features. It has a French Normandy flair. Recently, it was listed for $2.49 million.

Legend has it that Marilyn and the handsome JFK had their romance at the houses of his famous acquaintances. Bing Crosby’s 6,700-square-foot Rancho Mirage party home was one of the President’s favorite love nests. The palm-lined oasis features three firepits, a bar, an expansive open floor plan, Moroccan wood entry doors, and a large swimming pool. It was just $5 million on the market.
