When food shortages grip Britain, EU people are making fun of UK consumers by posting images of supermarket shelves piled high with fresh fruit and vegetables.
As stores struggle to secure supplies due to alleged supply chain disruption, Tesco has followed Aldi, Asda, and Morrisons in putting customer restrictions on some fresh fruit.
As a precaution, the largest supermarket in the UK implemented a three-item limit per person on tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers.
Although the shortages are anticipated to be brief, Aldi has imposed limits on peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes after retailers warned the delays may linger for weeks.
Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, salad bags, broccoli, cauliflower, and raspberries now have a three item per customer limit at Asda, and tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, and peppers now have a two item per customer limit at Morrisons.
Itц is believed that other stores are considering taking same short-term measures.
It follows a tomato crisis that first hit UK stores and spread to other fruits and vegetables as a result of a confluence of adverse weather and transportation issues in Africa and Europe.
